Requiem.

He was, no doubt, a mil-no, a bil- nay, a gazillionaire,
And she, as plain as the fields could be,
Their interests one sided - he could only gaze,
Laze upon the thought that was her.
He was sure of one thing, though..

He'd never know what peace felt like, ever again.

All the wealth he had, and all that he would ever gain,
it mattered little to him - for he'd found something.

Something, that for the first time in his life, would forever be

out of his reach.

He was no fool -
Oh no, sire,

He was a complete idiot!

And thus he thought, and think he did -
rather foolishly so!

The only way to gain peace of mind, in his mind,
would be to let her go

And the mad man that he was,
devised a plan finally.

What was it?

He'd drop a coin, or any currency that he had,
every time a thought stole his mind.
He'd place it on whatever was in front of him -
so you can imagine the plight of his associates,
who knew that the seed of madness took him away forever.

He lost all that he had,
and still the thought lingered.

The worst part?

She didn't even know that he existed.
The fool hadn't even introduced himself!

And so, in a cruel twist of fate,
he had nothing but that two things-
The thought about the one thing that would never be his,
and ironically, a bag of pennies.

The end came soon, though.
It happened one fine day, a perfect day to conclude upon.

He saw her.

It brought him bliss.

But then he noticed.

She wasn't alone.

The walls came down crashing.

He struggled against the strait jacket that bound him.

And then he smiled.

It struck him in the head, it did.

He took his coins out.

He looked at them..
And he took 'em.

And with a wry smile,
he asked himself..

" Penny for a thought? "
